Modern architecture, also known as contemporary architecture is not characterized by any one dominant style. Generally speaking, this building style reflects an abstract interpretation of design. Some appear as massive concrete sculptures brought to life with striking colors and irregular shapes. The structures are meant to astonish and bewilder while also serving the purposes of a modern structure. For the purposes of this analysis we will consider modern architecture to be any building that broke ground after the year 2000. Included in this analysis are some of the more striking examples of contemporary architecture in the Boston area.
